A Fascinating, Long Distance Friend

I met Tracy about ten years ago when I visited my family in Portland, Oregon. I wanted to see more of Oregon than Portland.

My thoughts ran wild. “What about Florence?” I chose a town on the coast with a view for travelers. Why Florence? It was my deceased mother’s name. I grew up with both parents’ love for travel. I was curious to see what Florence looked like. It did not disappoint!

Our motel was on the north side of the Siuslaw River that runs through the town to the Pacific. I could see a coffee shop across the river. Not only did it have a gorgeous view from that patio, but I remember the coffee and beautiful weather.

I picked up their local newspaper in the coffee shop, which mentioned a meeting for writers, the Florence literary society. I badgered my husband to see what they offered. I am a big fan of writers’ groups. I had already fallen in love with this little town full of small retailers, good food, and new people to meet. When the group learned I had written a couple of books, I was asked to share information about my most recent one at their meeting.

Several mentioned an art festival with many tents and talented people upcoming the next day. I danced a happy dance. There would be paperweights (one of my passions), book sellers, jewelry, other goodies and a cool breeze.

We arose early to avoid the crowds on the nearby pier at the art festival. I recognized and talked with Tracy Markley from the writers’ group, selling her books, and I found a corked bottle with a beautiful paperweight top. I still have the cork and Tracy became a longtime friend. She’s one of the writers I met at the meeting. We stay in touch, not often, but touch base periodically. Her REAL job is “Certified Personal Trainer,” specializing in balance, fall prevention and strokes, a strong woman with a big heart for helping others.

Tracy has moved to California, where she writes short books and trains people who need PT assistance. She “strayed” when she wrote a children’s book about her dog, but anything she writes is from her heart, which include many diagrams in her books to assist her customers to understand various ailments.

Why am I telling you about Tracy? I’ve bought books from her over the years. I want you to know about her books as well as my book for caregivers. Her latest book is Balance Walking and Fall Prevention. It is very detailed to help you understand more about remaining on two feet! I haven’t quite finished reading it yet, but I’m already walking better with my shoulders back and head up.

You can find her on Amazon along with her other books for many ailments. She’s special.
