Houston and a Quick Trip to Oregon
I thought I’d miss traveling to foreign countries this year, as we decided with the big move from Dallas to Houston to travel only in Texas. However, we flew to Oregon to visit family in August.
We took three days without family to explore Astoria, which was great fun and educational. We had amazing food. Bowpicker Fish and Chips has the best ever concept. Walk up to the stationary ship, buy the food, sit nearby to watch the ships in the channel across the street. When there is time, I may write about Astoria but I’m concentrating on writing articles about Texas Travel for publications and Travel Tips for you.
Houston adventures continue. Finding doctors, a new church home, and new activities took time. I hate Houston traffic but I’m coping and getting braver every day about driving on the eight-lane freeways. Whoops! I gotta move over four lanes. Ugh! Why are there two huge trucks beside me? Uh-oh! I missed the exit.
I love the nearby shopping and groceries. I love the diversity in the area. I’m learning a little Spanish and I plan to become more serious about it. I’m enjoying line dancing, as I love to dance. Funny thing…I thought when line dancing you simply follow the leader, as in exercise class. Noooo! They expect me to memorize the steps. It’s a little more difficult than I expected. Of course, relocation remains more challenging than anyone expects.
The weather turned cool today, but since I have visited Houston a million times before moving here, I know that it will warm up again. I recall Christmas shopping in a sweater one year. And now I LIVE here. Yay! I should have moved at least five years ago.
